Già all'età di 17 anni, Omar Epps entrò nel favore della critica con il film "Juice" diventando uno degli attori afroamericani più nominati.
Tornando al suo passato fu allevato dalla madre, maestra di scuola elementare, per poi iscriversi a New York per iniziare gli studi teatrali.
Omar con il suo debutto rischiò da subito di entrare nella mente dei registi per soli film di genere ma grazie al suo talento e bravura riuscì a mostrare di sapere recitare anche in ruoli differenti girando per "Higher Learning".
Il trampolino del successo lo trova con "ER" nei ruoli del Dr. Gant che lo fecero diventare popolare e più visibile a livello più ampio.
