Kelly Rowan nasce il 26 Ottobre del 1965 ad Ottawa, in Ontario, per poi trasferirsi dopo alcuni anni a Toronto. La sua prima esperienza televisiva arrivò a ben 19 anni in un ruolo nella televisione canadese.
Inizialmente Kelly iniziò a studiare recitazione ma al fine di pagarsi gli studi, nel 1987, decide di intraprendere la carriera di modella partendo da New York.
Successivamente si trasferisce a Los Angels per cercare nuovi posti di lavoro ed è proprio a Los Angeles che trova il primo vero ruolo importante della sua carriera con il film "Hook" di Steven Spielberg.
Prima di ottenere il ruolo di Kirsten in The OC partecipa anche a telefilm come in CSI nella seconda stagione.
