Joshua Lee Holloway nasce a San Jose, in California, il 20 Luglio del 1969.
All'età di soli due anni, Joshua, si trasferisce con tutta la famiglia in Georgia e più precisamente sulle Blue Ridge Mountains.
In seguito al diploma della Cherokee High School di Canton, Holloway si iscrive all'università della Georgia. L'Università a vita breve e dopo appena un anno, l'uomo decide di intraprendere la carriera di modello che lo costringe a viaggiare per tutto il mondo per circa dieci anni.
Joshua, non contento, si trasferisce a Los Angeles per cercare di approdare anche nel mondo della recitazione. Ha il suo debutto con il telefilm "Doctor Benny" il quale lo fa conoscere al pubblico.
In seguito le proposte di lavoro vanno ad aumentare e Joshua viene chiamato per alcuni ruoli in film e in telefilm come "CSI", "NCIS", "Angel" e "Walker Texas Ranger".
Nel 2004 è però arrivata la sua grande opportunità con il telefilm Lost, che con il personaggio di Sawyer, il quale lo rende famoso a livello internazionale.
