Justin Kirk nasce il 28 maggio del 1969 a Salem, nell'Oregon. Ci sono attori che non trovano facilmente ruoli all'altezza del proprio talento: è il caso di Justin Kirk.
Justin debutta tardi, pur avendo ricoperto ruoli in certi telefilm alla fine degli anni novanta.
Il primo ruolo importante arriva infatti solo nel 2003 in "Angels in America", la mini-serie di HBO che farà di lui Prior, un giovane omosessuale. Dopo qualche apparizione come guest star, Justin ritorna in televisione nel 2005 grazie a "Weeds", dove ritrova la collega Mary Louise Parker.
Nel tempo libero ama ascoltare Indie Rock e si definisce un "radio nerd". E' un fan dei KISS.
Da giovane faceva parte del gruppo rock "The Dimestore Darlings", dove cantava e suonava la chitarra.
Al momento si divide tra New York e Los Angeles.
